Garage Conversions

Converting a garage into a habitable room does not generally require planning permission as long as there is no enlargement of the garage. A Certificate of Lawful Development should be sought to prove the conversion did not require planning permission.

Properties in Conservation areas will, however, require planning approval. A building regulations approval is also required for a garage conversion which will cover insulation and fire regulations.

The garage was converted into a family room ( see next picture). The property had been extended above the garage many years ago with a flat roof. This was atered to a pitch roof to enhance the property’s appearance.

Home Office

With working from home becoming the new normal having a dedicated space to work in has become essential. Converting the garage into a Home Office can provide an excellent work space, often allowing room for storage cupboards ( you can never have too much storage) .

EasyPlan Architectural Services can take care of the design, drawings and applications of approvals for a garage conversion.
